Lewis Swift discovered IC 347 = Sw. IX-14 on 25 Dec 1889 and recorded "eF; vS; R; stellar."
300/350mm - 13.1" (12/7/85): fairly faint, small, almost round, stellar nucleus. Surprisingly bright for an IC galaxy. Located 26' N of NGC 1418 in the NGC 1417 group.
