Stephane Javelle discovered IC 2339 = J. 3-1037, along with IC 2338 and 2341, on 2 Mar 1896.
400/500mm - 17.5" (3/8/02): Arp 247 consists of a very close pair of faint galaxies with IC 2341 5.7' SSW. The brighter component, IC 2339, is very faint, small, 30"x20" SW-NE. IC 2338 is a very compact companion nearly just off the SW end (separation 0.7' between centers). One or two extremely faint stars about 30" NW also confuse the observation. Member of the Cancer I cluster. Located 5' WSW of mag 9.6 SAO 80153.
