Stephane Javelle discovered IC 2222 = J. 3-1029 on 10 Feb 1896. Four years later on a second observation he discovered nearby IC 2222, which is noticeably fainter.
600/800mm - 24" (3/21/20): at 375x; faint, small, slightly elongated NW-SE, 24"x18", low surface brightness, weak concentration. Forms a pair with IC 2221 2' SW. The companion lies in the background at 1.2 billion l.y. The two galaxies form a small equilateral triangle with a mag 14 star 1.9' E.
