Stephane Javelle discovered IC 2187 = J. 3-997, along with IC 2186, on 11 Feb 1896. Malcolm Thomson notes that the CGCG incorrectly identifies IC 2187 as being IC 2188.

600/800mm - 24" (2/5/13): faint, very small, elongated N-S, 20"x10". A mag 12.5 star is attached at the north end, which interferes with viewing. Forms a close pair with IC 2188 = IC 2186 1.8' N.
