Stephane Javelle discovered IC 209 = J. 1-79 on 28 Jan 1892. His position is accurate.

400/500mm - 18" (11/22/03): brightest in trio with IC 206 10' NE and IC 207 13' NE. Appears moderately bright, fairly small, irregularly round, 1.2'x1.0', weak concentration, irregular surface brightness. Surprisingly easy for an IC galaxy.
