Stephane Javelle discovered IC 189 = J. 2-550, along with IC 190, on 15 Dec 1892. His position matches CGCG 482-051 (both positions are offset about 30" ESE).

600/800mm - 24" (12/12/17): at 375x; faint, small, round, 0.4' diameter, low even surface brightness. A small group of 4 stars mag 13.5-14 forming a "Y" asterism is close west. Pair with IC 190 3.3' E.
