Lewis Swift discovered IC 1734 = Sw. XI-25 on 17 Nov 1897 and logged "eeF; pS; R; 2 faint st p[receding] point to it." DeLisle Stewart also picked up this galaxy on an Arequipa plate in 1899 and described it as "F, S, E at 100°, cbM."
600/800mm - 24" (11/7/18): at 260x; faint, fairly small, roundish, low surface brightness, 30" diameter. The contrast was fairly poor at a low elevation and at the edge of a light dome just east.
