Stephane Javelle discovered IC 1635 = J. 3-837, along with IC 1634, on 23 Dec 1897 and recorded "F, R, 20" to 25", gbMN, granular."

400/500mm - 17.5" (11/26/94): very faint, very small, round, 15" diameter, very weak concentration. Forms the south member of a similar double system with IC 1634 separation 40" between centers. The halos are almost in contact. A mag 14 star lies 1.1' NW. These are the brightest galaxies in the core of rich cluster AGC 154. The redshift-based distance (z = .061) is 900,000 - 1,000,000 light years!
