IC 1628 is the brighter of a close 1.25' pair with MCG -05-03-028, just beyond the halo to the southeast. The companion appeared faint, very small, round, 15" diameter. It is too small for any internal details.

Lewis Swift discovered IC 1628 = Sw. XII-6 on 12 Oct 1897 and wrote, "cB, pS, round, 3 8m st[ars] near." His position matches ESO 412-007, though he apparently missed the companion.

600/800mm - 24" (10/6/18): at 260x; moderately bright, fairly small, round, 45" diameter, fairly high surface brightness, increases to very small brighter nucleus.
