Stephane Javelle discovered IC 1565 = J. 3-820, along with IC 1566, 1568, 1569 and 1570, on 24 Nov 1897. Discovered by Javelle. His micrometric position is accurate.

400/500mm - 17.5" (9/5/99): first of three in core of AGC 76. Appears faint, small, round, 30" diameter. Located 2.4' S of a mag 11.5 star and 3.4' NW of a mag 10.5 star. IC 1566 lies 5.2' NE and IC 1568 is 10' NE. NGC 190 (HCG 5) lies 20' NNW.
