Stephane Javelle discovered IC 1383 = J. 1-431, along with IC 1381 and 1385, on 6 Nov 1891.

400/500mm - 18" (8/14/07): extremely faint and small, 10"x5" NW-SE. Situated between two mag 10.5-11 stars oriented NW-SE with a separation of 4'. Located 5.4' NNE of IC 1381.
