Stephane Javelle discovered IC 127 = J. 2-530 on 14 Dec 1892. He noted "faint, pretty small, diffuse, very close to a mag 11.5 star" and measured an accurate position.

600/800mm - 24" (10/1/16): at 375x; fairly faint, moderately large, very elongated 3:1 NW-SE, 1.0'x0.3', slightly brighter core. The view is somewhat hampered by a mag 12.5 star that is superimposed on the south edge of the southeast extension. The galaxy extends mostly northwest of this star. Situated 4.3' WNW of a mag 9.7 star and 24' WSW of NGC 584 in a group (LGG 027 = USGC S056).
