Stephane Javelle discovered IC 1256 = J. 1-384 on 29 Jul 1892. His position is accurate.
600/800mm - 24" (6/21/17): at 375x; fairly faint, moderately large; slightly elongated E-W, ~40"x30", slightly brighter core. Irregular halo with averted suggesting a spiral. Located 2' NE of a mag 10.3 star. Two mag 14.0/14.8 stars are just off the southeast side [50" and 1.1' SE of center].
