Stephane Javelle discovered IC 1209 = J. 1-380 on 19 Jul 1892. His position is accurate.

600/800mm - 24" (7/18/17): fairly faint to moderately bright, fairly small, slightly elongated N-S, 40"x30", well concentrated with a bright core and stellar nucleus. The outer halo is quite faint and doesn't have a distinct edge. A bright wide double (8.7/10.0 at 35") is 2.6' SW.
