Lewis Swift discovered IC 1074 = Sw. VII-54 on 4 Jul 1888 and recorded "eeF; S; R." His position is just off the north edge of the galaxy.

600/800mm - 24" (7/10/18): at 375x; fairly faint, fairly small, elongated 2:1 NW-SE, ~40"x20", slightly brighter core. A mag 12.7 star is 1.7' W, a mag 14.4 star is 1' SSW and a mag 9.5 star is 3.4' SW.
